Text Companies Instead of Calling and Holding

November 20, 2012

Everyone has had to deal with the annoyance of sitting on hold waiting for a company to answer the phone. TalkTo is going to change all that.

It is a new application that allows users to send a text message to any business within the United States from any iPhone (News - Alert), Android phone, or from a Web application on a tablet, laptop or personal computer.   This new application has been created to keep frustrated customers from having to deal voice-prompted messages or the frustrating “elevator” music they must listen to while waiting for someone to answer their call.

This new app allows users to text a business to make reservations, reserve items for later pick up, or book an appointment or meeting. Using text messaging for this business application is the same as sending a personal text message between family members.   The user will begin typing, and a list of businesses appear on their screen from a compounded database of businesses. The user then selects their desired business and types their message and sends it to the business. If the business is part of the TalkTo system, a company representative will directly respond back to the user about their request. If the business is not part of the system, a representative from TalkTo will make a phone call to the desired company and place the order directly.

Once they have a response, the TalkTo representative will send a response back to the user. The average amount of times it takes to receive a return text is five minutes.

Stuart Levinson, the CEO of TalkTO, imagines a world of possibility for users, “Imagine you could text the front desk of a hotel to find out if they have a room available, or a sports store to see if they have lacrosse equipment for kids."

TalkTo says that they have discovered that there are fewer phones calls being made, due to the fact that many people prefer to send a text message. Levinson has said, “People not only don't want to make phone calls, but they'll get home from work and say 'I meant to call that store or take care of this', but then the business is closed and it's not happening. Users can also send texts to businesses after-hours with the app.”
