FEC Makes Text Messaging Campaigns More Transparent and Efficient
Revolution (News - Alert) Messaging, a provider of messaging solutions for various campaigns, said FEC has approved its advisory and has improved the text message fundraising process allowing it to be more accessible, affordable and transparent.
FEC approved Revolution Messaging’s advisory concerning the expansion of mobile payments. The advisory not only makes text messaging campaigns more efficient but also helps campaigners save thousands of dollars in set-up fees.
In the advisory opinion, Revolution Messaging outlined key areas that need to be addressed, and the FEC approved them. They include the use of shared shortcodes to allow a quicker time to market than the initial m-Qube proposal.
Further FEC also approved Revolution Messaging’s request to allow federal campaigns to share the costs of the code between campaigns, so they can save $10,000 to $20,000 in just set up and fees for the ability to use these services.
The FEC has made the text messaging campaign more transparent by allowing contributions to be processed and reported; so there won’t be any anonymous donations of $50 to $200. This system, according to Revolution Messaging, would make text messaging payments a new channel for committees to solicit and report contributions of donors.
“This decision will not only bring this service to political committees faster, but will make it more affordable and open for those using it. It’s a tremendous victory for consumers who will use this technology to support federal PACs of their choosing,” said Scott Goodstein, CEO and founder of Revolution Messaging, in a statement. “Text message fundraising is an innovation we should embrace, but not at the expense of transparency and good policy.”
In addition to helping campaigners build text messaging strategies, Revolution Messaging also delivers mobile video, interactive voice solutions, custom developed mobile apps, and even mobile advertising solutions.
Goodstein is the External Online Director of Obama for America (2007-2008). He built out Obama Mobile, which included the unique shortcode 62262 (OBAMA), text message campaigns, interactive voice tools, mobile web, mobile video, ringtones, wallpapers, and the mobile app.
